Elementary Enriched Academics - Comprehensive Gifted in Neighborhood Schools
 
Comprehensive Gifted Programs
Comprehensive Gifted Programs are available in selected neighborhood and magnet schools throughout the city and serve students in grades 1 through 8. The programs are full-time; all core subjects are accelerated and enriched. Students are selected based on local assessments.
 
  • The curriculum is accelerated from .5 to 1 full year of instruction.
  • Differentiation is embedded into the accelerated curriculum.
  • Grade levels vary from school to school based on local school criteria.

  • Identification and Selection
    A comprehensive identification process selects students based on program design and predefined criteria.  The top 10% of students assessed will be placed into a comprehensive gifted program.  The following criteria are used as part of the identification and selection process:

    • DIBELS (students in grades K-2) or ISAT (students in grades 3-8)
    • Grade Point Averages
    • Teacher recommendation based on characteristics indicative of gifted and talented children
