Comprehensive Gifted Program

The Office of Academic Enhancement recognizes the diverse learning of the children of Chicago.  Identifying the top 10% of the local population allows for curriculum acceleration and differentiation.

Gifted mission statement

The Comprehensive Gifted Program establishes and maintains a high-quality curriculum that emphasizes rigor and complexity in the delivery of differentiated, meaningful, and respectful tasks, resulting in products that provide evidence of a high-functioning program for the gifted and talented. The Comprehensive Gifted Program embodies the philosophical approach of differentiation, embraced by educators who believe that quality teaching begins by responding to the unique and varying learning needs of a gifted/talented child.

  • Identification and Selection

An identification process is applied to the population to determine the top 10% that qualify for the Comprehensive Gifted Program. Three identifying criteria are utilized to capture a well-rounded snapshot of student ability.

  • Procedures Entrance Criteria

To enter the Comprehensive Gifted Program, the identification process is applied to each child at the local level.  Upon review from the school’s gifted committee and approval from the principal, students will receive written notification of their invitation to obtain a seat in the Comprehensive Gifted Program. New or transferring students will be reviewed on an individual basis and selection is determined by space.
